Hunting safaris South Africa: plainsgame, packages, lion, bow hunting, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe

OldDaysSafaris.com

The crude reality in Zimbabwe is that every day there are less and less quality hunting areas, and in those concessions the amount of game is continuously being reduced; if we also bear in mind that the season for these hunts is fundamental, we recommend that you focus your hunt on not more than 2 species so that you will be able to hunt in the optimum moment. Elephant, leopard, buffalo, hippo and crocodile are the only reasons why we hunt in Zimbabwe. Every day there are more companies operating in Zimbabwe, but it’s also true that every day there are less that we can trust.

Elephant:

We have different options such as:

  • Gonaredzhou area- where you will still be able to obtain big trophies with the possibility of getting over 50 pounds.
  • Gokwe area- for an elephant with good ivory and a good price. Best time to come is March/ April for crop raiders at night or July onwards to track a decent bull.  You can combine it with buffalo.
  • Chewore area- Great elephant density although quality wise you will rarely pass the 40 pound mark. You can combine it with buffalo and leopard.

Leopard:

  • Lemco area- this is probably the best private farm in Africa with over 400.000 hectares and incredible camps and the only one in Zimbabwe with great plains game density. You can combine with Sable, Buffalo and plains game.
  • Chewore area.
  • Kariba area- the concessions of Chete and Sidjarira, on the banks of the lake obtain big cats every year. You can combine with buffalo, hippo and croc.
  • We recommend a safari from early April until early august.

Hippo and crocodile:

  • Kariba area

Buffalo:

  • Best buffaloes concerning quantity and quality are obtained in the Northern concessions close to the Zambezi, such as Chewore and Dande. These areas enjoy good rainfall, which is why we don’t recommend a buffalo hunt before July.
  • Lemco area- every year the buffalo quality is improving, not being difficult to get close to the 40 inches.

Prices in Zimbabwe vary according to the different animal combinations and in cases such as the elephant where the possibility of obtaining great trophies. Please contact us so that we will be able to give you an offer which will best suit your safari.
