A word of advice

OldDaysSafaris.com

Duration of the safari:

Our experience tells us that a lot of hunters want to obtain a lot of animals in a few days, and we ask you to think twice. We never recommend less than 7 real hunting days.

Guns:

we recommend that you bring your own gun and ammunition, but nonetheless you can use one of our selection of guns at a minimal cost of 120$ + the ammo at cost.

We recommend calibers over the 270 for most of the plains game species, and a very special care in the selection of ammunition. The bullet should be of controlled expansion that can be used whether in antelopes weighing 10 kg or 600 kg. The bullets with plastic points are not welcomed.
The best points in the market right now are: Barnes X, SWIFT A Frame, Corelock Ultra bonded, Winchester CXP4, …..

Customs:

On your arrival to South Africa, on the passport control you will be given a temporary VISA with no cost at all. You will have to fill in a SARS paper that you will be given on the plane and you will have to hand in once you have collected the suitcases.

Gun paperwork:

Before your arrival we will send you all the necessary paperwork in the form of SAP520 to be handed in at the airport in order to collect your guns.

Insurance:

Even though we take all the necessary precautions, and have all the insurance required, we recommend you take out a medical insurance concerning hunting, bearing in mind that Old Days Safaris does not assume any responsibility of this type.

Medical precautions:

Each P.H. carries a first aid kit, and we have very good hospitals less than an hour away from camp. The malaria probabilities in our area are nearly nonexistent, but no company on their right mind can guarantee a 100% of nonexistent malaria in the whole South Africa, and we recommend you to take precautions and visit your doctor before coming. The best medicine to take at present is Malarone.

Clothes and suitcases:

Everyday there are more companies that weigh the firearms as luggage, this is why it is not necessary to bring a lot of luggage. The northern parts of South Africa are not cold, and temperatures rarely go under 45F or under 70F during daytime. It is a different story for people going to the Free State or the Eastern Cape, where in winter temperatures of 23F are not unusual. In all our camps washing is done daily which is why 2 or 3 pairs of clothes are sufficient. A good fleece jacket helps during the first 2 hours of the morning. The clothes that you bring will have to be the most comfortable ones you have in your cupboard, well-used boots that cover your ankle. Using the right colors is vital; run away from light khaki colors and go more towards dark green, grey, brown or khaki.  If it’s possible and for greater commodity in the transport bring soft suitcases, which are easier to handle.
